Debt Advice

If your tenants are in arrears with their rent, they may have other debt problems, perhaps caused by job loss or family breakdown.  We set out below some good sources of help.

Citizens Advice Bureau

The CAB is well known and most towns and even some large villages will have a CAB office or outreach service which visits.  Click here for a search box to find the nearest service to where you live.

There is also a wealth of information on the AdviceGuide website, including frequently asked questions in English, Welsh, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu and Chinese on a wide range of topics.

CCCS - Consumer Credit Counselling Service

CCCS is a registered charity offering free, confidential advice and support to anyone who is worried about debt. They have a free counselling and debt advice service, which can help you get back in control of your money and on with your life. You can use their online debt counselling which is 0800 138 1111 to speak to a Debt Counsellor.

National Debtline offers free, confidential and independent help over the phone for people in England, Scotland and Wales. You can call their helpline and also download publications from their website

Payplan

Payplan provides free advice on debt and budgeting, including free debt management plans and IVAs (Individual Voluntary Arrangements) without upfront fees. In appropriate circumstances they can also offer Assisted Voluntary Sale (AVS) as an extra option when advising over-indebted clients. This offers an ethical and efficient property sale where the true market value for a homeowner's property is realised while resolving underlying problems with debt.
