Quick Start
If you are a new member, this page has some guidance to help you.
First up, there is a step by step guide to logging in >> here.
Then watch this video (9.51 minutes) which has more initial guidance. Then read the rest of the information on this page below the video.
When you first log in
You will be taken to your 'My Landlord Law area'. This is where all your personal records are kept and where you can view your documents, saved bookmarks, and messages to and from other members.
Fist click the link to My Account. You will find your membership information here. Some things you might want to do:
- If you prefer to log in with your email as your username, put this in the alternative login field.
- If you want to have a signature with your forum posts and comments, complete the signature field. For example if you provide a service to landlords or tenants you may want to put brief details of your business here, a link to your firm web-site and also a link to your Suppliers page on Landlord Law (see below on this).
- If you would like a picture of yourself to appear with your forum posts, please upload one now. It is much nicer for people reading your posts to see the face of a real person. Some people prefer to upload their company logo instead, but people will relate to you much better in forum discussions if they can see your face.
- Note that the picture needs to be really small. It should not be more than 85x85 pixels. (If you have a picture but it is too big, email a copy to me, Tessa Shepperson, and ask me to shrink it for you).
- Make sure the personal contact form box is ticked or no-one will be able to contact you. Unless you prefer not to be contacted, in which case it should be unticked. But I hope you won't do that! Part of the value of Landlord Law is that you can make new contacts.
After you have adjusted the settings on this page, check your other information just to make sure it is correct.
Note that most of your personal information is hidden from other members. The only default information that others will see is your username, your picture or the default image if you have not loaded up a picture, and your profile if you have completed this.
If you want to change your username (so as to have a different name show in the forum) let me know as I can change this for you.
The rest of your information is only visible to admin (basically me, Tessa Shepperson, and my web designer).
Suppliers page
If you do not have a suppliers page and would like one, please go >> here where you can now apply for a free suppliers page (annual members only, subject to terms and conditions) - you will find a link to a form at the foot of the page.
Now start to explore the site!
The information you see will depend on your membership type (standard (landlord or tenant) or +Plus). You will find a links index block with links to the main landlord or tenant areas to your right. Have a read around the different sections, generate a form or letter to see how it works, and introduce yourself in the forum!
Note that if you are a Multi User member you will also have access to your companies home page, which will have information about your membership and the membership of others in your group. You can access this from the My Groups link in the members block at the top right of most screens.
Keeping up to date
You may have noticed the Whats New blog linked from the home page, and also from the members block at the top right of most screens. This announces new services, important news items etc.
It would be helpful if members could read this regularly to keep in touch. I will normally be updating this blog several times a month. Rather than read the blog on line, you can subscribe to get this sent to you by email.
I would advise that you do this, then you will not miss any important announcements or relevant news items. You can subscribe via the links on the home page or >> here.
You can read the old entries on the blog >> here or follow the link on my name under the blog entry linked from the home page.
Landlord Law is a social media site
Landlord Law is a social media site. We want you to join in the conversation! So please do posts in the forum and add your comments to the foot of FAQ and the Q and A.
For example you will find an introductions threat at the top - please introduce yourself and say a little bit about yourself.
You can also send messages to people you meet in the forums, as we have an internet messaging system. To send them a message just click on their name or picture and you will see the link. When a message is sent to you, you will see an alert (if you are logged in to Landlord Law) at the foot of your screen.

More help
If there is anything not covered in this quick start guide, take a look at the main help section. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, ask a question in the help section of the forum.
Feedback
We are always interested in hearing feedback from members. For example if you find things which are not working as well as they should, or links which don't work.
If so I would be really grateful if you could let me know, particuarly any broken links as I can then go and correct them (please be sure and tell me which page it is on - if you could copy the url / web address for me that would be great).
If you have any comments please put them either on the forum or send me a message.
Enjoy the site!
PS Don't forget to subscribe to the Whats New service so you don't miss anything - you can do this >> here.
