Landlord-Law Cases Database

In this section can be found important legal cases relating to residential landlord and tenant law, together with links to the full report of the case on the Internet (if any), and a link to the casenotes on the Lawindexpro web-site.

If you are not a lawyer, you are strongly advised, before using the Cases Database, to read the article on case law which appears first in the list below, or listen to the audio version to the right, as this article gives a basic explanation on case law and how it works.

About the case links

Where we can, we have put a link to the full report of cases on the internet. However not all cases are reported online. Most cases are available in printed 'case reports' which are published regularly and which can often be found in Law Libraries or via specialist services (such as that provided by EGI - www.egi.co.uk). The Lawindexpro report will provide details (along the top next to the case name) of the law reports where the full report can be found.
Click here for a list of most of the different law reports from the Lawindnexpro site.

About Lawindexpro

Lawindexpro is a large database of legal case law developed by solicitor David Swarbrick. It is a particularly helpful service as it shows for every case, other cases cited and cases where it has been cited. This will be particularly useful for lawyers carrying out reserach on a particular topic. Note that the description of the case on the Lawindexpro site is only a summary, and if you wish to use the case, for example at a court hearing, you should obtain the full report.

We are most grateful to Lawindexpro for allowing access to their case reports. Full access to the Lawindexpro service and search engine is available only to their subscribers - further information on this is available on the Lawindexpro web-site.

About the selection of the cases for the Landlord-Law cases database

Cases are listed on the pages according to the subject matter. The cases selected are some of those considered to be the most important. However we do not guarantee to have included all cases on any one subject, plus there may be important cases that have been overlooked by us. You will be able to locate other cases on the same topic via the Lawindexpro service.

We will over time be continually adding to the database both as we learn of other cases and as new cases are decided by the courts. So you may find additional cases here on a future visit!
