Talks and training

As well as writing for this web-site and doing casework, I will also give talks and training on residential landlord and tenant law. For example I have given talks in the past to surveyors RICS meetings, Local Authority landlords forum meetings, Property Investor Shows, and London Landlords day. I have also done a considerable amount of CPD training for solicitors for a number of training organisations, and training sessions for landlords as part of a local authority accredition program.
One hour talks:
The following are available for short 1 hour talks (with power point presentations), with for questions at the end. These talks would be suitable, for example, for lunch-time meetings for Landlord Associations or Local Authority forum meetings:
Essential Legal Points for Landlords - this is a general overview of the laws which affect residential landlords.
Dealing with problem tenants - this is suitable for landlords and agents and covers avoiding problems, the problems that can arise, and how to deal with them, including discussion of county court proceedings for rent arrears and possession.
Dealing with tenants' rent arrears - this talk, after an introduction giving tips on avoiding problems, gives a detailed account of the steps you should take when tenants fall into arrears of rent.
Tenancy Agreements - this is a detailed discussion of tenancy agreements, covering the requirements of the unfair contract terms in consumer contracts regulations and an in depth look at most common clauses in agreements.
Tenancy Deposit Protection - this talk looks at the regulations and the three government authorised tenancy deposit protection schemes.
My standard charge for these talks is £100 plus VAT, travel, and subsistence expenses (although I will sometimes agree to reduce or waive the fee in appropriate cases). Please remember that I am based in Norwich in East Anglia. Also I do not drive and am reliant for travelling on the rail network. Some areas of the country (Cornwall for example) will therefore be difficult for me!
