Homelessness Officer:
If you think you are homeless or are likely to be homeless soon, you should make an appointment to see our Housing Advice Officer (normally available Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons) by phoning 01237-428858/59 or by calling at the Town Hall, Bideford or any of the Council's offices where staff will be able to assist you.

Deposit guarantee/bond:
Most landlords will expect you to pay a deposit (usually equivalent to a month's rent) before moving in and will expect you to pay your rent in advance. The Council may lend people the money to enable them to pay a deposit and rent in advance in order to secure a private sector tenancy. These loans are only given to people the Council has assessed and found to be unintentionally homeless priority need applicants. (For further information, please see our Homeless Persons webpage). If an applicant qualifies for a loan, the Council will forward a cheque to the landlord (or landlord's agent). The Council will recover the loan from the applicant by deductions from their Housing Benefit or by setting up an account into which the applicant makes weekly payments. Most loans are recovered over a 52 week period. For further information, please contact the Housing Advice Officer on 01237-428843.

Landlord's Forum:
The Council meets regularly with landlords from the public and private sector to dicuss housing issues. This meeting - the Landlords' Forum - is chaired by the Chair of the Council's Housing Committee.

Meetings are held quarterly and the date of the next meeting is Wednesday 29th January 2003 at 7.00 pm in Bideford Town Hall.

For further information, contact the Housing Services section on 01237-428812.
